Boilers

A boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other fluid is heated. The fluid does not necessarily boil. The heated or vaporized fluid exits the boiler for use in various processes or heating applications, including water heating, central heating, boiler-based power generation, cooking, and sanitation. -“Wikipedia”-

The source of heat for a boiler can be from various sources such as wood, coal, oil, or natural gas. Electric steam boilers use resistance- or immersion-type heating elements.  Normally, the fuel of choice is natural gas, propane, or light oil. Increasingly stringent emissions standards have greatly reduced the use of heavy oil and solid fuels such as coal and wood. Of the fossil fuels, natural gas burns cleanest and leaves the least residue; therefore less maintenance is required.

Health Effects of Air Pollution

There are a number of negative health effects arised by air pollution:  Respiratory hospital admissions, congestive heart failure, non-fatal cancer, ataxia, chronic bronchitis, asthma attacks, global warming, etc.  However, when all of its environmental impacts are considered together, coal is by far the most destructive of all the fuels.  Half of the electricity produced in the United States is generated by the burning of coal, higher rates in some Asia countries.

Lower Emission

Emissions standards for boilers have become very stringent in many countries  because of the New Clean Air regulations.  The goal to replace, remodel and install high efficiency boilers on lowering overall industrial greenhouse gas emissions and increasing operational efficiency has become an important subject.  The remodel / change of coal fired boilers into gas or electronic fired boilers is the urgent priority in many countries.
